Default Would this be possible?

Trying to save a few bucks. I saw this conversion on another forum site with a different type of charger. Basically can I take this charger Hyperion EOS 403i which is a DC field charger with alligator clips. It runs off of this Input Power DC 11v~15v, could I cut off the alligator clips. Put a deans connector male or female doesn't matter on those wires. Then take any AC power converter with a DC output of 11-15v and cut off whatever connector is on that and replace it with the opposite side of a deans? Could also make up a car charger and new alligator clips for the field with a deans as well. Would that work on this charger. I can find a AC supply very cheap at a thrift store, plus the deans, would still be at least 40-45 cheaper than going with the 606i AC/DC hyperion.

Let me also ask what would be better a 3s lipo with around 1800mAH or a 2s lipo with 2600mAH? I am doing a build from the ground up and I am pushing $1600 bucks, so I'd rather save some on a slightly cheaper charger and batteries, was originally thinking of the 3s 2600mAH at $65.00 a piece, rather than cutting back from a dual FXR to sidewinders. I know the price differences aren't that much but if I could get closer to $1400 rather than $1600 that'd be great.

I'm getting the Havok bully roller kit, dual FXR 45t combos, cc bec, and futaba 4pk. Don't want to cut back to one esc because I really want to get the 4pk and to get the most use out of it in need duals. Could go to sidewinders and venom motors instead, but would rather stay with fxr's which is why i want to save on charger and batteries.

Thanks

Yeah, no reason it wont work. I do this to my chargers.

I run a deans on the input so I can either charge in the field with my big old batteries (4000mah to charge smaller ones) and I can also run the aligators by plugging them in as well.

Just make sure whatever power supply you get can supply the amps needed, 5A would be a minimum output for a charger I'd get. You can convert an old PC powersupply as well, but on some it can get complicated.

Cool thanks, I edited my post, maybe you guys didn't see it, but what about my battery question. Hyperion 2s 2600mAH or 3s 1800mAH, both same price 44.95.

the 3s should get more power (wheelspeed) but the 2s lipo will get more runtime because of the higher mah rating

I used to run 2S in my 2.2's but after trying a 3S I'll never go back. For me, the power and wheel speed was worth giving up a little run time...but I also ended up buying three packs

I run a 45T in my Axial (14/87 gearing) on Holmes 3S 1300's and I'm right around 25-30 minutes on each pack if I'm driving hard, and 45 minutes if I'm not hammer down.

Go with the 3s. I get about 20-30 minutes out of my berg with a 3s 1300 pack and it fits between the front upper and lower links

X2 Don't waste your money on 2s. Go to smaller 3s if ya want to save money. I just just got a couple 1100 hyperion G3 3s and get plenty of runtime. I even got some 500s on order. Just make sure they are 25c or higher. My cheap 20cs are swelling up.

I like putting banana plugs on the ends of the wires where the alligator clips are in you current set-up. Most bench type supplies use binding posts and bananas will plug right into them. Also, you may also find that the bananas will plug right into the alligator clips. That way you can use them as adapters if you need to connect to a battery. If they don't fit just solder a barrel connector onto the alligator clips.

Another handy adapter is a length of wire with a lighter plug on one end and in-line banana jacks on the other.

The aligator clips on the DC Hyperions pull off and leave you bannana plugs that will go into most power supplies. No need to cut them off and change them.
