NiMih's; it is recommended not to go below 0.9v per cell. But if you must, directly connect a motor or auto tail light bulb. It will take a little time but will get your pack to zero and possibly damage some cells and really messing up the pack.

For LiPo's http://maxamps.com/lipo-care.php. I will add, follow the instructions of the Battery & Charger manufacturer. You will have no reason to fear a LiPo.

Alright;
thanks for the help;

Ive got a 10.5 havoc in my rustler; an was wondering if a RTR rustler vxl kit from MAXAMPS will be good for it? The batteries ive got now are killin my run time; an ive always feare LIPO cause of the hazards; but i think MAX has good packs, an i was wondering if its good for it?

Never tinkering with Lipo cause ive been cautious with them..

Why do you think you need a discharger to get a full charge for NiMh's?

Run it in your vehicle until it's slow, then put it on the charger. You will get a full charge.

You don't need to do any discharging voodoo tricks for crawling. Simply not necessary. Leave that stuff for the racers that are trying to get the last 0.001 volt.

You can build something like the deans bulb discharger posted above.

I bought 10 automotive tail light bulbs and wired them together to build a 30 amp discharger. I don't use this on anything but 6 cell packs, I have a smaller two bulb discharger I made for my crawler packs before I got my new charger with a discharger built in.

I was told by an electrical engineer that nimh batteries can develop a "memory" so you shouldn't run them completely out.

Recycle the Nicads and get something new. They would need to be cycled a few times and even that may not work. Everything has a lifespan. I've also read that many brushless ESC with voltage cutoff won't work with older batteries because of the discharge rate or something. Your motor is basically pulling too much power, more than the battery can discharge, so the ESC is thinking it's low voltage when it's not.
