Default lathe motor noisey when running backwards, normal?

both my new lathe motors are a little noisey when running backwards (pos & neg swapped over)
is this normal or am i being dumb & have missed something, again.

Default hmmm.....

It depends. When a motor is new and run in reverse, it will usually click a little as the brush bounces off the com. As soon as the brush is seated then the noise should go away. If you still notice it then try changing the springs. I run a 8.5 FS (Trinity Red) on the positive and a 7.5 FS (Trinity Purple) on the negative side. This reduces brush bouce and increases torque.

If the noise still happens then I would look at centering the com and aligning the motor hood.
