Default Castle Creations Sidewinder w/Brushed Motor

Hey

First of all, I love this product - it works GREAT!!!

Second, the instruction manual should include a note that mentions the beeping will not occur when first connecting this ESC to a brushed motor.

I connected my Sidewinder to a brushed motor and it DID NOT make any beeps when I connected it. I thought something was wrong - it never worked right until finally, after about two and a half hours of fiddling with the ESC, checking the wiring, scratching my head, playing with the radio, blah, blah, blah, I finally figured out what was wrong - the instructions were wrong - the ESC won't beep when it's connected properly to a brushed motor. To a newbie, this was enough to create confusion and lots of wasted time & frustration. I trusted the instructions to be accurate - nope.

So, I'm going to buy another Sidewinder because it's a VERY versatile ESC, has a great reputation, and programming it really doesn't take that long and it's really not very difficult. But, if anyone at Castle Creations is reading this, please revise the instruction manual so people won't run into the same problem I did - just trying to help.

Thanks & happy crawlin,

AR

Man, everyone's wife has a crawler here. I'm just happy that my wife lets me have a crawler in the first place. She has been pretty tolerant of my RC "issue" but really wants me to stop going through them so fast, I just need to find one perfect car that can do it all.

Fortunately Bender has set me on the right path and with his SCX10 Rock Racer build, I am on the right track and will be having a sweet do it all truck in the very near future. Speed, at least 30 is the goal, rock crawling ability, nothing comp worthy, just good enough, and scale looks.

Not like I'm asking for much or anything.

What version of the firmware is it? The latest castle firmware no longer beeps. I updated a Mamba Max to 1.22 and didn't like it (missed the noise )

The castle stuff is pretty worthless without the link. Programing a sidewinder without the link is just a pita. Other wise a good esc for cheap.

I don't mind programming manually - if you write down what you want instead of reading the manual, it's pretty easy and fast. Hey, I'm cheap and I teach programming with Python . . . so . . .

Rock on,

I agree Oldhippie, With the castle link they rock!! Buddy of mine bought a sidewinder thought it was all easy to do without a Castle link, Found out he had to set it for a brushed motor cuz the come factory set to brushless motor setting.

Takes longer to stick-program than to download from Castle's site and hook it up to the computer.
