Question Specktrum Telemetry Question

First thanks to all that made suggestions and gave advice, helping me pick a new radio system.

On to the meat and potatos....

Ordered a Spektum DX3S, its comming with the SR3300T receiver w/ Telemetry. I intend to use this on a Tamiya TXT-1 build up. I was reading over the Telemetry setup and it says you have to place a sticker on your spur gear for the RPM sensor to have something to watch and give you a number. Trouble it the TXT-1 is a close/sealed gear box, placeing the closest thing it has to a spur gear inside with all the grease and what not , making it very much impossible to make a sticker stay on a gear, and not get eaten up by the teeth.

So my question, the instructions say to place a dark sticker on a light colored gear and a light colored sticker on a dark gear, I assume so the tracker can see the movement. Could I then, just drill a tiny hole, around the size of the given sticker, in the TXT-1 gear to act as the spot for the RPM sensor to track? I'm not too worried about weakening or throwing the gear out of balance, this isnt going to be a high speed racer, more of a casual crawler/basher. But i figure with the gear being a light color and the TXT-1 case being a dark color maybe it would work???

I have an after market motor mount, that i plan to drill up as needed OR run only one motor and mount the sensor in the empty 2nd motor location.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Dude, the Telemetry sucks. I tryed it 8 different ways and it doesnt work.
Its always been an issue with the Speky radios
So I wouldnt even worry about it.
But the heat sensor does work.

hmm bummer, well at least i didn't buy it for the features, they are kind of bonus features. Doesn't mean I'm not going to try so we'll see how it goes I guess.

Anyone else have different luck?

thanks for the input.

i put the sticker on my fly wheel for my FG and it works great, just want to clean it and let it dry and then clean it and let it dry again just to get everything off and make sure that it has a smooth mounting spot and is lined up correctly ....

You are also going to run into the issue of low/no light in the trans case, even with leaving the second motor off.

Make an adapter and put a fly wheel on the trans output and use the sensor there if you need the feature.
