It wouldn't be as simple as soldering in a 3-position switch I don't think. There's a tech article on how to convert an Airtronics MX-3 2P switch. I would imagine it would be a similar process to convert the DX3S; it's not a simple procedure...

im getting confused nw, there are a couple of threads about this but i have a dx3s nd it dosnt even have a 2 pos switch unless there is a war of useing the timer start/stop button. as far as i know, the only use for the third chanal is for a second steering servo so you have both controlled by the wheel.

You'll find 3 switches round the top section of the wheel, 2 do trim and the third which is closest to your wrist when holding the control is the 3rd chan.

I don't know how easy it would be to turn into a 3 postion.

I've got an S and it has it's moments of brilliance, like loading the right steering trim and wrong throttle trim for a model

I ran into this with an MX3 and the simple fact is that if it didnt come with a 3 pos switch then it wasnt ment to be. I tried to save money and found that its just easier to buy the R. Good luck! Buy the R.

pm jamison workshop, he keeps the menu on servo reverse and uses the 3 rd channel. to make it there position he switch from rev. to normal. I think he does this by setting the travel of the servo. so 50% rev and 50% nor. would give you 3 positions. dudes smart look him up. you should be able to find him in the maryland section

there have been threads about this before I think. Summary seems to be that its software controlled, so even if you replaced the 2-way with a 3-way switch, it wouldn't make any difference.

You should still be able to mix the third channel in with the steering if you want permanent 4ws, but its not much use for a full dig or gear change or winch.

If you don't want the expense of the DX3R, the only other spektrum pistol radio that does what you want is the lowly DX3 (not 3.0, just 3). Discontinued now, but you can pick up used ones cheaply as people upgrade them. Has a proper 3-way switch on the grip and can be set to linear or 3-pos mode in the software

its a good, relatively cheap option for a crawler pistol radio
