Default To go Digital Servo or Not... That is the question.

OK, last night during our smash/crash fest, we killed the stock AX10 RTC servo in my buddies rig and I got a/some stripped gear(s) in my HS-645MG.

Looking for some replacements and having a hard time choosing if I should go digital or not and if it's worth it or not.

Another question is, can you run a digital servo on a Tx/Rx that doesn't support them? My buddy is still using the stock Tx/Rx with his RTC, though I know my Jr Tx/Rx will be ok. We're both waiting for the 3PM-MX to arrive, but in the mean time, need to get back up and running.

Any suggestions, advice, etc. is welcomed.

Thanks!

A digital servo should have no troubles with those radio systems.

As for which one to get, that's up to you. I just picked up a Futaba S9157 and it seems to work quite well...

Ditto-- the digial servos will work with the 'old' systems-- I'm running a Futaba S9156 on my Traxxas TQ3-- works GREAT!

One of the best things about the digital servo is that it *seems to* center itself in exactly the same place every time. I'm anxious to try one on my street car.

Most definitely. Also, if you are running a dig, a digital servo works well for that application. I like to be able to hear when my servo is binding....it helps to keep me from killing the servo.

Are people getting the digital servo programmer too to setup overload protection? Thinking about ordering the HS-7955TG and perhaps the HPP-21... Thoughts?

I'm using 7955s, and I bought the HPP-21 programmer. I think that it's a good buy. I've fine-tuned the end and centre points, and set overload protection.
You can also set the servo to low-resolution mode if your Tx won't give you enough travel.

Cool to hear - I already placed my order for both. The overload protection sounds like it would be worth it alone.

Yeah, if you dont have a good radio that will allow you to adjust your endpoints, that programmer is a good buy....

Does the C-170 have the titanium gears too? I saw those, but wasn't sure. Also, does the hitec servo programmer work with those?

Thanks,
SS

Yes the gears are titanium. It's just a relabled Hitec HS-7955TG everything is the same but cheaper. So I guess the programer will work.

I keep hearing the CS-170 and TS-170 are relabled Hitecs but I would love to know if anyone has successfully used the Hitec programmer with them.
