Glad you like it, but first : ALL ESCs have a built in BEC. This one's is at 6V/3Amps.
That's actually WEAKER than the Novak Rooster brushed crawler ESC at 6V/5Amps.
If you need an external BEC for the crawler ESC you definitely need one for this weaker ESC.
The Castle Creations is a 10 AMP BEC.
If you're running 3s Lipo and a strong servo you will encounter the same issues all of us fixed with an external BEC.
Long story short: you need to spend 20 bucks lol! JMTCW
It's nice that it's a brushed or brushlees ESC though!

The Novak 3S also comes with an external BEC.

Looks like this:

whats the amp rating then 3,5 or better?

i find the 5 amp on my 2s goat a little weak for an 8711 and the fan (and ESC gets real hot without the fan) and am adding a dig servo as soon as my exitex shows up. neither lhs will program a cc bec for me but one does have a 3s goat on the shelf that i plan to get soon anyways. probably get it from a vendor on here instead though.

any changes to the drag brake or other programability on the 3s?

The BEC module included with the Goat 3S is here:

Losi Crawler Tips with Novak Goat 2S and Goat 3S systems, and Novak 13.5 Crawler motors.

The Losi Crawler uses worm drive transmission gears which require special attention to the setup and use of your Novak equipment.

Original Goat 2S esc Tips:

Your Goat ESC can still be used to great effect with the Losi or other worm-drive crawlers if these few guidelines are followed:

1. The worm drive gears do an excellent job of applying brakes and as such, the specialized hill hold brake function for the Goat can result in extra ESC or motor heating. It is recommended to use profile 3, or Servo mode, with your Goat ESC in your worm drive crawler.

2. The low gear reduction associated with worm drive transmissions means that sometimes with an 18.5 or 21.5 motor the wheel speed may be lower than what it was before with standard transmission vehicles. In cases where more wheel speed is needed, the new 13.5 Crawler motor can be used go get your wheel speed back up and still retain all of the advantages of the worm drive transmission and the Goat ESC software.

Goat 3S esc Tips:

1. The Goat 3S comes pre-set to the worm-drive profile by default, so you should not experience any heating issues associated with running the hill hold brakes with your worm drive crawler. Always use profile 2 with worm drive transmissions.

2. While in search of more wheel-speed with worm drive vehicles you may opt for a 3S LiPo battery pack instead of simply using a 13.5 crawler with 2S LiPo.

When using 3S it is necessary to use the included High Voltage BEC circuit to ensure proper operation.

3. With the added power and wheel speed afforded with by the 3S LiPo pack, using the new 13.5 Crawler motor is not recommended in conjunction with a worm drive crawler because the input RPM will cause large amounts of heating to the gears and the gear cases themselves.

Can you run two brushed motors with this esc? (will it work with a Berg?)

3 amp?:-( so it would power one servo if the one on the ESC is still 5 amps to power the rx and dig servo and fan. might be enough but sounds like you still need a cc bec.

Specific application, or vehicle or product specific questions, should be directed to tech@teamnovak.com.

Do your self a favor and just buy the Castle BEC rated at 10 amps and can be used with larger batteries, according to the Novak Specs for there BEC it is only rated at 3 amps and can be used with 6.3-8.4 volt batteries, that's not going to work very well if you are running a 11.1 volt LiPo.

We have tested running the ESC/fan off the internal ESC's BEC w/ 3S and it works in this application... the servo/receiver would run off of the external 3A BEC. Setups like this where the ESC and the external BEC power circuits are isolated from one another in our testing it have worked well in our testing. So a 5A + external BEC for the servo/radio might be better given the high currents that a lot of these high torque servos generate...but what we include has worked in our testing.

I think there is a little confusion here ...we have a "Universal" 3A BEC which uses a linear regulator and is rated for 6.3-8.4V. The High Voltage 3A BEC that comes shipped with the Goat 3S is rated for use with 3S-7S but is 3A.

Adding the switching regulator circuitry to the ESC internally would add more size/cost/complexity/radio noise to the unit and thus it was decided to go with an internal linear style regulator.

Ya might as well just leave the bec off and save whatever the cheap thing ya put in there cost if it won't power decent size servos used for crawling off a 3 cell lipo. :?
