Default is my battery toast?

i have an 8 cell 2/3a size saddle pack that has always worked great untill today it got so hot in the first 5 minutes of crawling it melted the shrink wrap off! always ran it in the same esc, same everything! whats the deal, and i checked for shorts with another batt and looked but it had to have short in the batt so..... is it toast?

Yep! It's a goner!

It could have been dropped or bumped, it doesn't take much of a dent/crushed spot to cause an internal short on some cells. Look as the positive end of the cells, look for a strange foreign matter, the cell may have vented, that will confirm it!

If you get the opportunity, discharge the cell, and cut in half. You will get a good visual of how fagile they can be....there is a lot of action going on inside the cells, from heat - contraction and the chemical action/reactions from charging and discharging. One look will explain it all!

You could possibly take another pack and select the best cells and make 1 reasonable practice/bashing pack.

no discharge or anything no physical damage other than the melted shrink wrap but i plugged it in to my esc a seamed to work just fine, so i taped it up and it charged just fine

What motor? Your battery resistance may be climbing.

35t, and havent had a problem with the same battery pack just a 6 cell, and ever scince i retaped the battery ive ran it 3 times and not one heat problem scince just warm when charging and running
