Default Dx6i without throttle return mod?

hey guys, I'm planning on getting a dx6i for my ax10 so I can finally have dig. The reason I'm going with a stick radio is I eventually would like to do a super or maybe a scale build but I would also like to get a heli or park flyer. Can I run my truck without the return mod or the heli with the mod such way should I order my radio?

You can go run your truck without it and fly anything with it. If you have never messed with a stick radio, I would do the mod.

As long as you pull the throttle down, once the mod is done. If not, it will always be at half throttle, as the gimbal will stay centered.

If you fly more than you drive - leave it alone

You could also run the throttle from the right stick and steer with the left. I personally couldn't get used to that (I run a DX6i on my Bully tuber), so I did the mod, but the option is there.

Or you can set you throttle to 0 at 50% through....just change the throttle curve. You will only get half you your throw but the throttle will cut when the stick is centered. I have my Blade MCX setup this way. I also have it set to flip a switch and when the stick is centered throttle is at 50%....so I get full throw.

Another alternative:

Use a spring throttle, but drill a small hole through the back of the case so that you can get a small screwdriver onto the tension adjusting screw.
Also fit the throttle ratchet leaf spring, but bend it away from the ratchet moulding on the back of the throttle gimbal. Fit another small screw, threaded through the back of the case, that pushes the leaf spring into contact with the gimbal.

To drive your crawler, tighten the centring spring adjusting screw and slacken the ratchet leaf spring screw - spring throttle.
Other way around for flying - ratchet throttle.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll try it without the mod first with the throttle on the right stick ( I'm a lefty so I do most things bassackwards any way) if it doesn't work I can always send it back for the mod.

The DX6i is laid out pretty simple, you could open it up and switch the gimbal assemblies around, although that may be too much trouble.
