Default Battery/Charger ?? NiMH's w/ NiCD Charger ?

Hello, Ok I'm getting back into R/C after about a 10 year time off, I've got a Competition Electronics Power Pro Turbo Flex Charger, I have recently aquired some split pack 1500 NiMH packs. My dumb question is can I charge these packs on that charger or do I have to get a different one? Of course all I've charged on this charger is NiCD's.. If so what amp rate? Thanks...

A NiCad charger isn't suitable for use with NiMH cells, as the peak detection used is different. IIRC, NiCad peaks at 20mV per cell, NiMH at about 5mV per cell.

If you charge a NiMH pack on a NiCad charger, it'll keep going when the pack is full, and the pack will get hot, possibly venting.

Looking at the manual for this charger, it has a "trickle charge" mode. It's probably OK to charge NiMH packs on this setting, until you get a new charger. Keep an eye on the temperature - no more than hand-hot.

When you buy a new one, get a LiPo balance charger. These normally handle NiMH as well.

My charger is set to 3mv per cell when I charge my nimh. Should I change it to 5mv per cell? Can't find any info about mv per cell on my NIMH's. Thank you

No - leave it where it is. 3mV sounds right - I was going from memory.
I just checked my NiMH charger, and it's set to 20mV per pack, so that's 3 and a bit mV per cell.

Does all chargers have mV?

In mine I only have for NIMH charge the option to chose the Vol, I just charge my 7,2v 1800NIMH 6pac in 40min I found it very fast, is it normal?

The current I put 1.8 since the battery is 1800NIMH, is it like that our did I do some thing roung?
