| Servo current draw
i want to build up a voltage regulator, as opposed to running a reciever pack. problem is i have no idea on the current draw. any1 know how much current 2 x 1/4 scale servos & the reciever will take roughly? 1 can't rememeber the exact servo number, they're hitec 1s with quite a high torque. any1 help? |

I would give yourself at least 5 amps continuous.

hmmm, thats a lot. most of my regs are only rated at about 1 amp. still, i suppose 5 will be lighter than a batt pack, & less bother. i'll see what the spec says | |

just tried searching again, got no results last time! (probably my spelling.) ok, loads of info, as always on here, but why do people seem to be using fixed regs then modifing them? why not just use a higher current rated variable reg since its being set with resistors anyway? & of course, if every1 is running 7805s with a 1 amp rating, how many are u all using on ur truck? |

I use the MPI regs with speed controllers that dont have enough juice. http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-21.html The six volt or variable versions work well. You could also straight wire your batt into your electrics, but its risky. |

great stuff. so do u find that 1 unit rated at 10 amps is enough for 2 BIG servos? |

great stuff. thanks. i found that early after u nudged me in the right direction. i've ordered some LM1084s. not used them b4, rated at 5 amps though, normally use the 1 amp version LM317T. i'll see how they go. cost me about 1 dollar each in ur money! gonna try 3 together to get me 15 amps if i need it. |

i spoke to hitec about doing that in the past. he guy there said they'd run, but only for a limited time. 6 - 6.5volt was the max ie, 5 x 1.2 cells when charged.

I was messing around on rc plane boards and came across a requlator that was rated at 5 amps, 6v. Seeing as they have to use 4-6 servos on a regular basis, that might be worth looking into. I'm sure they would be the ones to talk to about a high amp regulator.

I'll second running it straight to the battery. I've done it for years without problems. Them big assed 1/4 scale servos really wizz at 6cell voltage! |

i did consider doing that for a while, but i'm running on 7 cells again now, so gonna have to regulate.
