| do you have to consider voltage, or just mah when charging nimh's?
It just hit me that im charging various nimh batteries based just on their mah; 1500, 2300, 3600. Thats all i change when i charge them; 1.5a, 2.3a, 3.6a. Do i need to consider the voltage; 7.2v, 8.4v, and even AA's 1.2v? Just wondering if the charger knows the voltage and if it matters?

Most chargers recognize the voltage automaticaly with NiMH but with some you need to input the cell count. The only NiMH cells that I run now are the Orion 2700 AA's in my DX3R, which I charge at a .5 amp rate. If you charge Tx cells at 1c they get real toasty in the radio, and it can cause damage to the internals. Otherwise, 1c is always a great way to charge batteries, but if you want a bit more punch out of them, you can bump it up a bit...on your 3600's for example, try a 4 amp charge rate. I was told way back when that it never hurts to charge batteries at a nice low rate once in a while to bring them back to life a bit. I used to do that on my Elite 1500's...around every 10th cycle I'd charge them at .1 or .5 and just let them rip for as long as it took. |
