hey whatsup, things happen fast around here so sometimes the good stuff gets burried. if you dig a little you will probably find posts that are very similar to yours, or that the topic has been covered. here is an awesome post by my buddy pablo. you will learn a lot from this guy, so follow him along after that post as well. How-To: run a winch with only a 2ch radio now that isn't exactly what you need, but it might work. your best bet is spend a couple of bucks on traxxas radio gear. |

There's no way that I know of to upgrade a 2ch radio to 3ch, so you'll have to buy a new Tx. Unless your Rx has 3 channels, you'll need to replace that as well. The cheapest option is a secondhand TQ3, but you'll lose the programmable options that your Spektrum's got. The TQ3 is a basic radio. Easiest option is to get a DX3-whatever. Some models have a 2-position 3rd channel, some have 3-position. There are several other 3ch options, such as the new KO Propo, Futaba 3PK, and some Chinese radios retailed by Crawler shops. The problem with 3 channel radios is you might be faced with the same situation again in the future - not enough channels for things like lights, winch, etc. There aren't many 4ch wheel radios - Futaba 4PK and, IIRC, the Traxxas TQ4. The most flexible solution is a 6ch stick radio, like the spektrum DX6i. That'll do anything that a crawler will ever need. You get a lot more options and channels for your money with airplane radios. |
