Default ESC fan questions

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I searched and couldn't find an answer. I'm looking to put a fan on my Mamba Max. It seems to be getting too hot, I haven't checked the exact temp but I can't comfortably keep my hand on it after a bit of running around.

So the fan I'm looking at is a Yeah Racing Tornado cooling fan. It seems like it will be a great fit for me, moving plenty of air and it will fit the ESC. The problem is that the info says it is 8.4v max. I plan on running a 3s lipo before too long. I thought about a BEC but I will be using it for the servo and have it set between 6.5-7.4v. What I'd like to know is has anyone run one of these, if so, have you upped the voltage without any issues? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Plug your fan into the RX. The Novak fan works great to. But if your ESC is getting that hot it's because of your gearing or your over powering your motor. What motor and pinion/spur are you running? What battery?

Current battery is a 6 cell NiMh and the gearing is 87/14 powered by a Crawlmaster 1000kv motor.

What rig is this in? Your ESC shouldn't be getting hot at all?:?

An AX10, stock chassis, wheels, tires, axles- it started out as a RTR, although there is no proof that it ever was.

The motor seems to get a little warm as well.

I'd have to double check, but I'm 99% sure it is, only doubting now that you ask.

If it was set on brushed it wouldn't even run. Very strange? Something isn't right here. You could have the gear mesh to tight!

I'll double check the mesh once it's all put back together. I did set it with the old piece of paper between the gears trick.

Not that I have ever seen. Every time I have got in a hurry and forgot to program the MM all it will do is make the motor glitch and make tones. But it wouldn't run the motor at all.

If you did the paper trick your prob good there. Though it could move if you didn't LocTite the screws? If the mesh is good I would say check the axles. Make sure the bearings are good, check the gears, lube up the axles....

With what you have told us your ESC should be fine. How long do you have to run the rig before you would say the ESC get's to hot to hold your finger on for 3-4 seconds?

I have just checked it the last few times after I was finished bashing around the yard, maybe 15-20 minutes (complete guess).

I think I'll check the axles then while I have it partially torn down. It couldn't hurt to give them a freshening up. It may be a few days but I will report back with my findings. Thanks for the help.

I got a 12v small fan from Ebay. screwed it into the heat sink. Search "mamba max fan" on there, the seller has all different kinds of voltages.
