| lipo bag and charging amps
Is it really that important to get a lipo safe bag for charging? Anyone ever had any problems with charging lipos? The charger I got can only charge at 5amps. Also wondering what the best charge rate is? If I have no time limit, is it better to do say a 1amp charge vs a 5amp charge to make the batteries last longer? Thanks |

your battery should tell you what "C" to charge at (or not exceed). It depends on your Mah of your battery as well. for example, a 1000 Mah battery charging at 1C is 1 Amp. 2C charge would be 2 Amps. I never charge above 2C. If you have a 2500 Mah battery that will take a 2C charge, that would max out at 5 Amps charge rate :-) hope this helps, as I had it confused for quite a while. |

I would also spend the 15 bucks and get a bag!!!! cheapest insurance you could have if you ever plan on charging on your kitchen counter, in your car, in your crawler, etc.... why gamble? if a battery explodes it could cause a lot of damage, let alone burn something up.

I would get the bag as stated above. I have been running lipos for the last few years and have never had one go up in flames. But I still use a lipo sack just in case. I dont want my house burning down because of a $70 battery. As far as charge rate, I always charge at 1c. What amperage you charge at will depend on the battery. If its a 1500mah, I would charge at 1.5 amps.

Thanks for the replies. So my battery is a 2200mah, if I charge at 1c, this would mean I should charge at 2.2amps? And just double that if I decide to charge at 2c, so 4.4amps? |

Yes sir. I still suggest charging at 1c though. Some of the newer batteries are making sales because of the "can charge at 3c" deal. Most lipos can handle being charged at those rates, but your going to lose battery life.

Cool, 1c it is, I was just curious in case I am ever in a hurry. But generally speaking I charge a day ahead of time or at work highly anticipating getting out. Thanks again!!! |

No problem. As long as your using a balance charger, I think you would be ok to quick charge as long as you dont go too high with it.

You can't beat a LiPo sack for portability, but a clay flower pot works just as well for home use. Narly1 |

You can even try searching at ebay and still youll get the same lipo sacks at cheaper price.. I use one while charging and still charging it inside a glass pyrex just for added safety.

Ok, I am a newb when it comes to lipo. I have some 1300mah 2cell 25C lipos. Does that mean charge at 2.6 amps? Or just leave it at 2 amps?
