Water break in is actually an old school method that still works well and has become popular again with guys running Slashes and Traxxas Titan 12T motors. It reduces friction between the brushes and commutator during the proccess. If you break it in with water, just be sure to clean it with a good motor spray when you're done, and relube the bearings or bushings on each end of the can. Trinity Royal Oil works well. However, since you have a Checkpoint 1030, I'd suggest picking up some Comm drops and have at it. Either setting (1 step or 4 step) will work, and you can program the voltage as well. I believe I read somewhere that between 3 and 5 volts is optimal. A comm stick is a great tool to have as well if you don't have access to a lathe. It's not a replacement for a comm cut, but it will clean the residue from the commutator and prolong life a bit. |
