| 3s 1300mah in SCX10...
Hey guys, I just got a couple 3s Zippy 1300mah lipos for my scx10. I will be running them on a waterproof traxxas XL5 esc and 35t integy motor. Since most cut offs dont work on this, I will be running without one. Does anyone have a general idea of how long a 1300mah pack will last in this thing? I want to run on the side of caution here. Thanks! |

don't run the batt all the way down, be sure to balance the batt when you charge it, and get a lipo cutoff as soon as possible. |

Im not new with Lipos so I know not to run them down fully, but just wondered if anyone had a general idea. The XL-5 esc supposedly doesnt allow many cut offs to work with it, dont know why, but from everything I have read that seems to be everyones problem. |

doesnt the xl5 only have a max of 9.6v not 11.1v of a 3s lipo. and without the cutoff as soon as you notice a drop in speed you should stop

Yeah, its only meant for 2s, but I know a few people that have run them in crawlers on 3s with no issues which is why Im taking the chance. When you have it in a Slash running 3s its a bit different vs. a 35t motor in a crawler.

I run a 5200mah Lipo in my SCX10 with a 35t motor. I can scale for about 2.5 hours and when I go to charge it again, it takes about 1200-1350 mah to fill the pack back up.

Hmm okay thanks for the info. Just talked to another guy and he thinks I could do somewhere between 30-45 minutes on a pack before it dumps. I'll run it and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the help guys.

| As soon as you notice ANY drop in power, turn it off.

Get a lipo ALARM...monitors voltage through the balance tap and beep when you hit cut-off. Maxamp, hobbycity just to name a few sell them.

Steve, I'm going to be in a similar situation with one of my other RCs (esc w/ no cutoff). I guess I'll do something similar to you in that I will maybe take a really cautious estimate and run it for a set amount of time, then when it charges, try to go by how much is put back into it and try to roughly figure it out. I know you aren't supposed to run without a cutoff, but if I know for a fact I have a certain battery that will power a certain RC say 75 minutes under the worst conditions, I don't see why you can't run something like that 45-60 minutes and not get into trouble. Especially when you will know that the battery acted normal during it's charge cycle when you have a good charger that balances and gives all the info on each cell. I don't have the money or desire to have a high end esc with cutoff or an external cutoff in every single RC I have that I want to run lipo in. I don't abuse my stuff and I understand the risks which is why I would only do something like that with extreme caution. Common sense goes a long way, unfortunately many people lack it and the way I described above would not work for someone who was not extremely cautious. You always have that guy who likes to cut things close, live on the edge, do the dew, etc... This way isn't for that guy cause he'll ruin his batteries at the very least. LOL Hope it works out for you Steve! Eric |

I just ordered one of these to use in a Short Course truck that doesn't have a cutoff. http://www.maxamps.com/2S-LVA.htm They make a 3s version also. http://www.maxamps.com/3S-LVA.htm It hooks up to the balance plug and has an audible alarm when you hit 3.3 volts per cell. I would think it would work well with your setup as it's not a cutoff, just an alarm. I also like it because it would be really easy to move between vehicle's. Get something like this: http://www.helidirect.com/maxpro-bat...zer-p-8148.hdx You want to recharge at around 3.6-3.8V per cell or 80% discharge. |
