Question Looking for a good lipo starting point.

I want to convert over to lipo's and I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for. I currently use a novak rooster crawler brushed esc and 55 or 27 turn motors depending on what I'm doing. I've found that the rooster can handle 2s lipo packs. I've looked around and read the info stickied at the top of this forum but I'm still a bit lost.

I want a charger that is ac or dc. I'm not dealing with a power supply. What else is required? Do most chargers come with the "balancing" equipment needed? Do all packs have the extra leads for balancing?

I'm looking to get a couple of packs (20-40$) and a charger (100$+/-) but would like to get them from the same place at the same time. I've found deals on reccomended chargers but the same place never has a compatable pack in stock :(

The truck I'm putting them in is my scx10 TR. Not a whole lot of room with a chassis mounted servo up front.

I too, dont like to mess with power supplies and needed a charger/balancer combo. I have been running the Hyperion EOS606I charger/balancer for a few years now and am completely happy with it. You can find a good deal on them at www.krawlerhobbies.com

Jason (@ KH) also sells the packs that I like to use....Thunder Power. I use the 1350mAh 3S (these packs also fit well beside a servo on an axial axle) on my 2.2 comp rig and a 2250 mAh 5S on my super. I also run various TP packs on my scalers. I have been quite impressed with these packs. The 2700 mAh 3S lasts for 2 hours in my scaler and I can drive my super for over an hour with the 2250.

One note, you will need to make sure to pick up the Thunder Power balancing adapter for the Hyperion charger....it should only be a few bucks.

The FMA chargers are one of the most accurate charges you can get and they make addaptors so you can balance charge any pack. I know you don't want to deal with a DC PS but FMA sells a wall wart PS that makes it almost like an internal DC conver. I don't like chargers with an internal DC PS, it produces a lot of heat and they tend to skimp on the PS; so when it goes you are out a charger as opposed to just replacing the PS.

Great customer support and made in the USA

I've had very good luck with lipos from Value Hobby (I use their 30c packs)

Hobby King is great for cheap lipos, shipping is expensive and slow but they have a great selection and good product

I have a Duratrax Onyx 230 that I use for all of my rigs (Creeper, B4, SC10, Mini-T). I use a Team Checkpoint balancer that has different adapters available. I have a 1300mah from Protek that is small and can be mounted next to the servo.

I'm running some cheap nicd 1500ma packs right now. Am I going to see a decrease in run time with the holmes hobbies 1300ma packs?

Think I'm going with this charger/power supply

And these packs

If you're going to get the Hyperion packs why not get the VX series?

35C compared to 25C of the CX.

For a good while now,I've been running the Holmes Hobbies 1300's in both of my Bergs. Great packs at a great price. I wouldn't run anything else in a Berg. I'm a firm believer in the Hyperion chargers. Best on the market IMHO.

A couple weeks ago,I picked up a couple 850mah Thunder Power 3 cells from Jason at Krawler Hobbies for my Bastard Jr. rock racer build. They fit perfect up in the nose of the chassis. Awesome little packs with great punch.
