| Holmes Hobbies Torque Master Mini question
So my old TMM motor puffed a little smoke the other day... It killed the car... I let it sit and finished the comp... Now it gets real hot pretty quick... Is it re-buildable in this form or is it toast? Already have replacement New TMM's... I'm just wondering if the old one is worth keeping or is it junk...

I rebuilt mine a couple of times and IMO it was never the same. Still worked great but just didn't seem to have what it had when it was new. Make sure your timing is marked when you do tear it down, I had one of the original ones where there were no timing marks (or maybe they vanished) but that was one of my biggest problems, having never f'd with the timing before.

You have to take it apart to see what shape it is in. If you got it really hot and cooked the epoxy on the windings its probably toast. The mini is only $30 new so its not going to pay you to throw another arm, brushes and etc at it and still have iffy magnets.

Taking scotch bright to a comm, all your really doing is making it shiny. Integy comms are about as round as a potato. Making it shiny again ain't really helping it any. | |
