| rooster ESC, Brake check!
I have been all over the electronic area lately as a result of my esc and bec but I am back to normal and it appears my shade tree electrical skills have me running like a champ/chimp again. Here is my problem. My rooster was programmed to have neutral be a brake (I think) but on really steep decents apparently my brake is "soft" and my truck is rolling. I have my first comp next week so I am trying to get this baby ready to booger. Am i missing something or do I need to re-program the esc? |

I would say yes, reprogram the Rooster. It should brake solid at neutral. |

If you are reffering to the Rooster "Crawler edition" than what kinda truck, motor, tranny, and gearing are you running and disregard my post below. The Rooster does not have the option that you are wanting. Assuming i read this correctly, you are looking for "Drag Brake" and the Rooster do not offer this option. Now there are 2 types of brakes, Drag brakes and "Reg" brakes. Drag brakes apply drag at neutral throttle, and Reg brakes apply the brake when your rolling fwd and toggle the trigger to the reverse postion. |

If you're wiring is in question, it's a good idea to clean it up. Excess wire length, not so hot solder joints, and worn motors all add up to make for less then stellar brake performance.

With ESC connected to (at least) a receiver & a charged battery pack: 1. TURN ON THE TRANSMITTER’S POWER 2. PRESS & HOLD ESC’S ONE-TOUCH/SET BUTTON 3. TURN ON THE SPEED CONTROL’S POWER With transmitter throttle at neutral, and still pressing the SET button, slide the ESC’s ON/OFF switch to ON position. 4. CONTINUE HOLDING SET BUTTON UNTIL RED LED COMES ON 5. RELEASE SET BUTTON AS SOON AS LED TURNS RED 6. PULL TRANSMITTER THROTTLE TO FULL-ON POSITION Hold it there until the green status LED turns solid green. Note: Motor will not run during programming even if connected. 7. PUSH TRANSMITTER THROTTLE TO FULL-BRAKES Hold it there until the green status LED blinks green. 8. RETURN TRANSMITTER THROTTLE TO NEUTRAL Red status LED will turn solid red, indicating that speed control is at neutral and that proper programming has been completed. NOTE: If transmitter settings are changed, One-Touch Programming must be repeated. If you experience any problems, turn off ESC & repeat One-Touch.

| Maybe it's the motor then.
Well I did that same setup a million times and it will still roll slightly on steep decents. I'm dunning a 55 turn novak. Maybe that's the problem.

Or did you get the motor used? Does your rig "skid to a stop" when you release the throttle? Mine did. I even think that the drag brake was better on the Rooster Crawler than it was on the Sidewinder until Castle's recent updates...

well I have two of the rooster crawlers and both hold on a steep incline and dont move maybe there's a problem with the esc...as for the sidewinder I got rid of mine beacuse the drag brake did'nt hold still a good product but I did'nt like mine at all. (even after the update) |
