I've got an electronics setup in my rig that I plan to leave for a while, but I have a "problem"... I'm a "color whore". Everything has to follow a certain color scheme, and for me, it's black, or bare metal, or anodized gray possibly... Metal and plastic parts were easy; just paint or de-anodize them... but the electronics have me a bit stumped. I did find out that black heat shrink took care of any wires (servo/motor leads). An antenna tube takes care of the antenna. For the motor and Rx, I simply removed the stickers... But I'm left with 2 questions... Where can I buy heat shrink to re-wrap my batteries? My batteries were done with clear shrink, I'd like black... and I'm running a Mamba Max esc. We all know the MM has a green heatsink on the top of it. I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to take the heatsink off, as I'd like to de-anodize/paint it. Is it just glued to the top? If so, what glue should I use to re-attatch it? Thanks in advance... I searched, but these are 2 things I couldn't figure out for myself -Greg |

Can't answer the MM question, but just wrap all your batteries with black electricians tape. Get a good quality tape with a satin finish and they'll come up nice. Take some care and you can do it without any crinkles in the tape. I've been doing this for some time, and its how I hold all my custom packs together!

i wouldn't try to remove the heatsink or paint it, removing it might prove difficult to re-attach it and have it work efficiently, and painting it may reduce the efficiency and cooling of it... not sure what to suggest, but you may just have to live with it.

I can't find shrink tube large enough for batteries, locally, but I've seen it on ebay in various sizes - so you don't have to buy a roll. If you can work that heat sink off the ESC--and assuming it is anodized aluminum--Easy Off oven cleaner will take care of the anodizing and it shouldn't have ill effects if you use common sense (Easy Off and anodizing has been discussed greatly so a quick search should be informative). |

I've been using easy-off since the AX-10 kit came out! So I'm a seasoned vet... I thought about electrical tape, but I want something a bit more "professional" looking... kinda how Holmes has his packs wrapped (the ones he sells on his site) Maybe I just thought these 2 things would be simple... Thought I might have been missing something. If I can't find an answer I'll just learn to like it |

perhaps you could just easy-off the heatsink with it still attached, then it would at leats be silver... that'd look better IMO.

I agree, silver would be perfect, and easy off would be key, though I'm afraid that if I start spraying oven cleaner all over it with the heatsink still attatched, that it might mess something up with the ESC (electrically of course...) The heatsink is a darg enough green that it might not be too noticable, and I might not OCD out about it... but the batteries... I sure wish I could find some shrink wrap! |
