I would like to know what the differences are between the winds in motors. I already know the hand wound motors are best, if you can afford them. But how about the Novak 55 motor? It comes in 35t, 45t , 55t. All the same price. Whats the deal? Speed? Torque? I don't necessarily want Novak motors, I just used the name as an example.

The higher the wind, the slower the speed and the greater the torque. You also gain run-time. Handwound is prefered because the winds are placed with greater precision, which increases its efficiency (more torque & speed vs a machine wound motor with the same winds). |

As you go down winds, the motor will make more power overall. It does this by gaining RPM at the loss of torque, but the inherent gain in RPM is greater than the loss of torque... So, you need to pick the wind that meets your power, rpm and torque requirements... I simplified this so its easy to understand.....there is actually tons of other factors, but this is the basic of it! Later EddieO |
