Default Help Needed: Sidewinder and Brushless outrunner issues

Just hooked up a 2580kV Scorpion HK 2221-12 to the sidewinder. Setup the sidewinder for brushless and everything else at stock spec. Running a BEC and 11.1v lipo. Hooked it up and calibrated the ESC to my radio. It has been in brushed mode.

Gave it a few throttle pulls, little bit of hesitation then it gets going. About 3 or 4 throttle pumps its turning fast, then it starts hesitate. I can hold the throttle at full and it will just kinda "jump" at like 1/25 of the throttle all glitchy like.

Unplugged everything, re-calibrated, plugged back up. Now it just kinda cogs int the direction Fwd/rev and gets kinda warm fast. This is not hooked up to a trans either.
Oh, and the castle beeps went away after the first calibration!

Tips, comments, suggestions?

Try to reprogram your sidewinder. Idk why, but, mine has jumped out of brushless mode to brushed a couple times after running a brushed motor. Usually afteritsits for a week or 2. Also check your throttle expo or linear curve if using the castlelink. Maybe even the nutreal deadband? Hope you find the reason.

thanks.
whatca mean by throttle expo or linear curve. I have those set to base, or straight line. Not seeing a neutral deadband. Seeing a throttle deadband.

It's in brushless mode.

ok, aligator clipped it to the 8ight-e 1700kv monster and the sound is back it's blowin' and goin'.

Ok, so it's the brand new motor I just hooked up?
WTF? Its rated for 4S. So, now what? That's all I get is a few pulls of the trigger for a "Competition Series" Helicopter outrunner?

FYI. 4mm barrel-ended alligator clips work great for connecting to 3mm esc barrels!

Try hooking it up differently. I don't know why, just a thought.

If that doesn't work, hit it with a hammer.

I tried swapping the red/black wires on the esc/motor still the same.
No binding, cause its off the trans and the red wire is pulled from the esc for the BEC, etc.

It ran great the first 3-4 throttle pumps then it started running super slow and twitching every 2-3 seconds and getting hot.

Fix it Duuuuuuuuude!

Did you hit it with a hammer yet? That fixes everything.

No, not yet. It still could be using as fishing weight or an armadillo projectile.

Guess I wil trying giving Amainhobbies a call tomorrow and see what they can do to get me in touch with Scorpion motors.

Try swapping all three of the wires around, not just the black & red.

Just talked to a guy at innov8tivedesigns.com (AMainHobbie's Scorpion Motor Supplier) and he said it sounded like only 2 of the 3 phases are getting power. Since the motor is glitchy and quivering.
It is probably a bad connection or cold solder in the bullet connectors I soldered to the ESC or the ends of the male connectors coming from the motor could be gummed up.
I'll check it out later.

Now that I think of it, it does sound like a wire isn't connected or the white/signal/what ever wire is in the wrong place. Or the esc is gone but if it works for another motor.... Hope you find your problem!

It was the male barrel connectors that come off of the motor. They were suppost to spin freely. They weren't. I just moved them around a bit and plugged em back into the esc female ends and blamo. Fired up.
I guess some solder or solder flux was jammed in there or something causing a bad connection.
