| Old school speed controller upgrade
I recently dug out my 20 year old rc car and want to change the speed controller. What it has now is the big resistor with a sweep arm mounted to a servo. Lots of corrosion on it and I don't expect that it would last long. The motor is a Team Associated 05 Group 12 - if it matters. And the radio is an old Futaba 27.195. Should I expect any issues if I drop in a new solid state Castle or similar? Just planning on 7.2v Thanks Last edited by acrosteve; 07-17-2010 at 05:57 AM. |

There shouldn't be an issue with upgrading. There are plenty of vendors here who offer motor/speed controll combos.

I am wanting to keep this as cheap as possible, so maybe I will go for a stock axial controller and keep my current motor.

I would clean that motor with some motor spray and put some 3 in 1 oil on the bushings before using it. Make sure it can turn by hand and hasn't oxidized and locked itself up.
