| 27t...45t...55t...?
I'm planning to swap my stock 27T motor in my SCX10TR with a slower motor. My idea is to go with a Novak Fifty-Five. I'm ok with "race motors" but crawling/scale is something new for me. Before I press the "buy" button, what RPM/torque should I expect from a 55T compared to a 27T motor?

Searching is your friend... generally speaking, higher wind motors turn lower RPMs for less wheelspeed but more torque. Having said that, the last dozen or so scaler builds I've looked at have run 35T (the 7T puller from holmeshobbies is popular) or less to maintain wheelspeed, and because you can change your gearing to increase torque with a lower turn motor. |

I generally run a 35t motor or a puller which is different on the winding.

What about Novak 45T? Since I wanna use bigger tires, I don't think I'll lost much speed.

Should be a good choice for you. You would have more power with a 35t, but the 45t will net you a much longer runtime.

I went with a 45T in my scaler when i had it, way better than the 35T i started with, had a 14T pinion on it. Good runtime and "crawled" well. If lookin at the novak motors, if ya spend a little more you can pick up a Brood motor, awesome motors, just got some for a berg build. they run about 30 bucks more than a novak, but are way better built. |

IMO the 35t is a great wind for crawlers, but requires some finesse with the throttle. if ya got expo it helps ALOT. but your also more likely to break stuff with a 35 than you are a 45.especially if your not used to it. I run a holmes hand wound 45t in my scaler and it crawls like a goat. I'm ready for a 35 now that I have a better radio and have learned to dial it in. but I would suggest a 45 to start. and I would definatly try to support a rcc vendor for your needs. team brood does have some AWESOME handwound motors. as does holmes. but if your not wanting to drop the coin for a handwound. holmes has a machine wound you can get on his site. not sure brood has a machine wound available. |

Maybe one day I will offer a machine wound......but I just don't see it happening. I'd rather sell a good product, then sell a inferior product just cause its cheaper.... Most axial guys are about 50/50.....half go with a 35t and the other half a 45t.....with the random guy meeting in the middle at a 40t. Definitely spend the extra coin if you can and get a handwound.....you will thank yourself later. Later EddieO |

Wow 27T is too fast?! Lol...what's your gearing and electronics? 27T is good for scale rig like the TR...I personally use 35T but that's just b/c I used the 27T in another rig. You can always reduce your pinion...cheaper that way. | |

The pinion has been reduced long time ago. I just want my truck more slow. Thanks for all your advises, I have ordered the Novak 45T, it is cheap and more than enough for my TR. |

I dont know if you have a specific budget, but I have been in the same boat before and I just bought a 30t hand wound brOOd motor and it is just sick. I have a 14t pinion and an 87t spur with a 3cell and it has crazy fast wheel speed with tons of torque right off the bottom. Ive ran integy, novak and even a pro series tekin. No comparison. it only cost me a little more than a machine wound. I believe brOOd offers 40 and 45t motors as well.

I'll certainly buy another motor soon, I've checked Br00d motors on the web, they look nice and have good comments. Thanks for the info
