Default XL-5 on 3s Lipo

I'm running a Blue XL-5 in my CC-01 and was wondering if anybody has had any success running one on 3s lipo with the BEC disconnected? I know Traxxas rates it for 9.6v but ?? I run Sidewinders in my other crawlers but am putting this truck together and already had the esc and a 3s low voltage alarm.

Thanks,
John

Pffff, sure it can. I ran my Slash with it and the stock motor on 3S for months.

Three guys in the neighborhood have been running it in their scalers for about a year, and I have also, but went to something else for space reasons.

No external BEC or lipo cutoff either, with 35 turn motors in the scalers.

That's what I'm running, a 35t and a GD-600. I think I'll give it a try!

Thanks EeePee

A fully charged 3S has about the same voltage as a fully charged 7-cell NiMH pack so you should be fine. Specially if PeePee says so.

Well this was a perfect thread to stumble across. I'm heading up to the cabin for the weekend and just finished my scaler last night. I'm running 2 two cell lipos parallel with a 16 turn triple 16/87 gearing with the blue xl-5. Does this sound like a bad idea? This is just what I had laying around to get the Cherokee going. Hopefully you can shed some light Eee Pee

Thanks for any help,
Farmer

So you're running a 16 turn triple on 2S in a scaler? Sounds fun to me.

No drag brake and double pump reverse kind of stinks, but you'll get used to it. And having manual brakes is fun.

Wow an XL5 can handle 3S?! That's crazy! I was sticking to my 2S to be on the safe side for ages!!

I also run a 35T on a scale truck just never tried it. Thanks for that update man!

Lol...I kind of want to smoke the XL5 anyways...it's one tough mother but I'm just waiting for an excuse to get the Holmes BRXL so I can finally get a freakin drag brake setup...manual pumping of the XL5 is fun but when it comes to scaler comps sometimes it's a PITA...and no external BEC either.

Myself and many others in our club have been running the XL-5's on 3s for a long time now. Most are running 35-55t motors though a few (myself included) have run 20t on 3s and have yet to kill one. The XL-5 is a stout little esc.

Dumb question but does it auto detect for 3 lipo cut off or are you just letting it get down to 2 cutoff?
