The one that you put the highest voltage to. The tekin sensored motors are the smoothest I have driven so far. The other ones with larger rotor diameters sacrifice some low speed resolution.

it would be getting 6S. What do you think about a tekin 21.5 on 6S? Most motors seem to be rated for only 2-3S and i want to make sure its going to last.

thats what i wanted to hear.

the setup before was a mamba monster and a 14T puller on 6S but i did some major work to the truck and got a great deal for the electronics so i sold them. looking to get a little more wheelspeed without losing the low end.

Last edited by kurt; 08-17-2010 at 07:58 AM. Reason: listed wrong turn for the puller

i just read that the tekin is an 85 watt motor. Will that really be sufficient?

I was looking at this one as well. LRP X12 21.5T

All the roar spec motors are pretty much the same on power. The tekin will be just fine.

i hate to keep asking but will the motor be fine on 6S? It seems like they are all rated for 2S.

Stormer doesn't list the wattage for the 21.5 but its 148.

still the tekin on 6S? lol

Oh, gosh yeah. It won't even be spinning 50k rpm. You will get the wattage closer to the 5.5 on 2s with the 21.5 on 6s.

Tekin finally got back with me.

Kurt,

No, the Redline motors were designed for 2-3S and some people have ventured to run them on 4S for drag racing but we don't cover them under warranty.

Thanks,

Found this by BrianG on rc monster.

There are two factors that determine how much voltage a motor can take.

1) Electrically, the dialectric strength of the coil wire insulation, which is usually some type of varnish substance. As long as the voltage isn't high enough to "jump through" the insulation, which usually takes into the hundreds of volts, the coil is fine. However, a voltage that is too high can cause overheating, which could melt this insulation shorting the coils. This would appear to be caused by overvoltage, but only indirectly as the real culprit is the current.

2) Mechanically, the rpm limit. As long as the kv * v doesn't exceed the max rpm limit of the motor, it's fine.

the problem is my battery packs are only good for 100A rms. those 1/8 motors could pull much more than that if i bind them up. I did think about a castle\neu 2200.

gotta hate it when you wait for parts to come in and then you get it in and nothing works like it should.

Got it all installed and the shaft just shakes if the sensor cable is plugged in. Unplug it and it works but has some cogging. (naturally) plug in the steering servo and the whole thing gets incredibly glitchy and laggy.

giving up for the day. not stressing out on a saturday.

Sounds like the motor phase wires are not plugge in correctly. Try swapping them around.
