|  Motor problem
I have a new problem with the front motor in my crawler. It's the same one that had a broken brush but I don't know if the two problems are related. It was working fine the day before but yesterday I went out and the front axle wouldn't turn until I spun the tire by hand to get it started. It would go fine until I stopped, then the same thing. I thought it was the front axle binding but when I removed the motor it would still do the same thing, not spin until I bumped the pinion to get it started. It's an almost new JPH 31T crawler motor, I haven't taken it apart yet but I wouldn't know what to look for anyway. Any ideas.....? |

I didn't run it after I knew it was broken and only briefly for testing before that, maybe a couple minutes on the workbench and grass. I did replace the brush with a brand new Infinity one with help from a guy who knows motors. We'll open it up later this week, just trying to get an idea of what it might be.

Might have a hung brush/spring. Also check the brush hood alignment. If its warped, as the brush wears it will no longer make good contact with the comm.

Might not be shorted, if it's older and hasn't ever been taken care of, or cleaned up and cut, they will get so out of true, or develop flat spots that the brush doesn't make good contact. You give it a little push and it overcomes that flat spot.

You can't adjust the hood aligntment on a Checkpoint based motor......and there is really no way to throw it out of whack, without literally destroying the endbell.... Later EddieO |

Sounds like you have a dead phase on the motor. Easy test, get a multimeter and see if there is continuty on all segments.
