Default esc & motor, tech question, kinda

before I smoke something,(that sounds bad). Humor me please, With the motor running in reverse pos to neg / neg to pos. and the 2 wires are arched at the same time, connecting both polls together ( energize both), would this cause a spike to the esc? I read this, looking around to see how a motor brake works on rc. could this be a bad idea. I know buying a esc would be easier & safer, is there a componet to keep this from happening ? If someone could answer this that would be Also how is a 3rd channel added to a 2 channel? thanks. up date :I found out diods are what im wanting to do
