| ESC+steering question...too much expo??
Running a Sidewinder esc in brushed mode. JR 9100t servo. Stock Axial rx/tx. 2s lipo 2100mah Built the rig and everything worked good. I didn't have enough steering so I lowered the steering link to lowest hole on my servo arm. Steering improved but a problem came up. At crawling speed when I give full steering right or left the motor starts to stutter like a sum-buck. Literally jerking but barely moving the rig. Almost seems like it is pulling too much juice to work everything? Or the exponential is too much? No way to adjust that with the crappy radio. I moved the link up a hole for less 'throw' and it seems to work fine. Any help is appreciated |

whats happening is your stalling the servo out, and its drawling a lot more current than your esc can supply to it. you have a few options here 1)deal with less steering throw 2)get a bec 3)get a radio with epa myself, id say 2 to start with. get a castle bec, set it at 6 volts and wire it direct to the servo. however your still going to need to be careful with it, if you hold the servo at stall for too long its going to get hot and you could damage the servo. id plan in the future for a better radio that has epa. |

Thanks, Sharkey A better radio would be my best bet. Need to go 2.4 anyway. Would I have the same problem with the Mamba Max? Guess I could check the specs myself... Thanks again! | |

iirc the sidewinder and mamba max both have a 6v 5a bec, however the internal bec in most speed controls arent the greatest and you can expect cutoff with any high powered servo. up the input voltage and the condition gets worse. best bet is a castle 10 amp bec, they are fairly cheap (iirc about $25), you can program them for any voltage you want, and its going to stop the problem. most consider an external bec to be mandatory on any crawler, i dont, but when your having issues like that its needed
