Default sidewinder esc trouble

I just got a new sidewinder esc and I'm having a lot of trouble setting it up It cuts out (no power to the motor ) but steering is ok)) and when i stop it it shutters back and forth. I turned off the remote and it still shutters I have to shut it off and re start it. And within 15 min it will do it again. WHY ?????? my crawler is a venom with a 50t crawler motor and a 6 cell nicd batt. The braking is great and the sped control (when it works) is great to, but why in the h^&)( is it shuting down. I put a fan on it with no change some one please help me..... I know it's a good esc but what is wrong

thank you all

What happens when you unplug the servo? Have you set the ESC to brushed mode? Seems like it is running sometimes, but it is kinda hard to tell what is going on with your post.

What servo are you using? Do you have an external BEC to try?

You can also check if you have your lipo cut off set to on.
