Default TorqueMaster Mini

Does the HH TorqueMaster Mini have a lot of magnet drag? I want to get a couple for my scalers, but I don't want them to have drag brakes.

They are not to strong on magnet drag at all, depending on the pinion and spur gearing.
Also depends on the ESC that you are using, and if you have the drag brake turned on at all.

your scalers are mini's I guess?
I will say that out of all the mini's on the marker(there isnt alot of brushed ones) the holmes mini's will be your best choice IMO.

there are some others out there, but holmes has a very fair price for his mini's.
and the other mini's out there arnt really suitable for a scaler IMO.

the reedy mini mods/stump puller are more expensive and wont be as suitable to your application.there are others too,but nothing I would use.

the magnets in the little mini's are strong, but you can back off of the drag brake on your esc to your liking.

I will also say go with the 33t,you can alsway gear it back up,and he says you can go 3s on the 33,not the 22t.

they amount of drag break is determined by your esc. Yes these motors have a great holding power when you have the esc setup with drag break but the motor alone will not give you drag break. If your esc is a stock mrc one you won't find any motors out there that will effectively reduce the drag break. You are going to need to get a new esc if you want no drag break.

Wow! Terrific guys, thanks! What I meant by motor drag was a physical feature, not an electronic one. I burned through 3 crappy stock MRC motors in only a few weeks, so I'm going to order a HH mini and see how I like it.

yeah, never go back with stock if you can help it.
the 33t in a scaler should be perfect.

You can probably decrease the spring tension some....that will help reduce the drag brake some, and will increase torque (yes, less spring tension is more torque....more tension is more RPM...)

You can also heat the magnets to make them weaker, but its not easy....

Yer not....its a bad misconception that its the other way around....try it on a dyno.....go look through big jims old posts......ask Oscar Jansen, Jim Dieter, Mike Reedy, Todd Putnamn, Etc.....all will tell you the same thing...

Stiffer Spring = More RPM
Lighter Spring = More torque

Why are purple's used on most crawler motors then?

Drag break. I put purple springs on my machine wounds in the scalers and the drag break is much better.

Stiff springs are pretty much the normal in crawling as they help with drag brake/holding power.......and they eliminate any chance of brush bounce. IN fact, if you guys didn't use stiff springs, the people who never take care of their motors would be in a world of hurt...as the brush wears, you lose tension....if you started soft in the first place, the spring would do barely anything with in time.
