First thing you need to do is make a list of your goals.

For me, it would be:
  • dual esc's mixed
  • dual esc's independent
  • front wheel steering - rear locked
  • rear wheel steering - front locked
  • front & rear wheel steering - mixed
  • front & rear wheel steering - crab walk (not a deal breaker but would be nice)
  • front & rear wheel steering - independent
  • winch
  • lights
The next thing I would do is figure out what would be used from the most to the least.

Once I figure out the order of importance, then I would read the manual to see which channels are the easiest to switch to - things most important - and the channels that are the hardest to switch to - winch & lights would go there because they are not used as often as steering.

After that, I would make exagerated changes just to see what it does while all the time writing down the before & after settings to keep track of everything so when I need to go back and tweak, it would be easier.

Once I have exhausted all possiblities I have at my disposiable - google, youtube, search on forums, etc. Then I would ask a very specific question detailing what I want to accomplish, what I did to try to get to that point, and what the undesired result is.

In what way??

Single motor rigs (usually shafties) are pretty easy to set up as there is no proportional to deal with. Thus, the 3rd channel can be more basic.

I'm not really understanding your question.
