Most people are using servos rated in the 300-350oz of torque. Obviously more is better.

This one is the one I am running on my Bully, its a great servo for the price.

500!

The Hobbico is a great servo but this time more is better. And the Hitec 7980 is more $$ but definetly worth it.

Do you guys experience heat coming from the Hitech servos? Anybody temped them in harsh circumstances and seen them over 140F?

Tower Hobbies usually lists the torque for the servos they sell, so google tower hobbies and the model number.

Just me, but I am cheap because my kids run all my rigs, so things usually get broken.
I usually run used servos. Most of my 1.9 scalers have Hitec 645's that have NOW been waterproofed. My JK has a 1/4 scale 805BB in it. Huge, but 343oz, and I got two of them for $20each, NIB.

Hey John, yes I have. I have run mine in 116 ambient temps in Yuma, AZ. I had the servo temps up over 140-160, at 7.4V. OLP set at 10%, I only lost power once when I tripped the OLP in a major bind. If I was losing power before that it was not noticable.

I have moved out of that area now, so I will ask Krawlfreak if has noticed any major issues as well.

Just got a care package for nationals too:

Some of the contents!!

Mudder you need a 300+ oz servo this is the most abused piece of equipment on a competitive RC crawler, to skimp here would just cost more money down the road.

Yes, more is better. Most run a separate BEC for their steering, I do. Then they power the receiver and dig switch from the esc.

If you are fine running at 6v, than no, you don't need a separate BEC. But if you want to take full advantage of the 7950 or 7980's torque, you'll need 7.4V. If you only run a 2S li-po, than you can just run lead directly from your battery to the servo, or you can use a BEC which is safer.

edit: But most run at least 3S li-po, at which point you would need a BEC to regulate the voltage.
