Default Another Puffed Lipo!!

I don't know how I went through 2 lipos in a week! I just ran my honcho with 3S on a Sidewinder and when I was running it there was a couple of times I lost throttle response. I did up the gearing to 19/87 just for playing around and currently using an Axial 27T motor I had laying around.

After the entire pack was done I checked the temps on the motor and it was 190 degrees and the ESC was at 145 degrees. However the pack was at 140 degrees and was definitely puffed!

The pack I use is HobbyZone's 1300mah 3S pack which has been used a little over 7 months and an entire comp season. Is this normal?

Ummm, motors really shouldn't even get close to 160.

I'd guess your overdrawing from the battery, which are wimpy packs to begin with.

Mmmm..Pretty sure a Sidewinder on 3s is only good to 35t motors. At least according to Castle. Could be wrong, but worth checking. I run them in my scalers, with 3s and 35t, no troubles at all. Gearing is between 87/18 to 87/22 most of the time.

The battery appears to be a 15C at 1300 mah that means the continuous current rating is just under 20 amps. An over geared 27 turn can easily draw 40+ amps. Basically the battery just isn't designed for what you're asking it to do. Cheap Lipo's and high current demands equal dead Lipos.

Oh I see that's why! Well it was fun to have the honcho darting around like a Slash! Lol...I'll gear it back down to 14/87 or drop in a 35T once I smoke the 27T.

Thanks!

The sidewinder is rated to 19T on 3s. I actually run dual 35T's on a emaxx trans of a sidewinder and it only gets to about 130*F.

Those packs are pretty wimpy, and I didn't even see a discharge rate in the link. You can get a much better battery for that price anyways.

Check out hobbyking.com, they have some great deals on lipos.
