Default a strange thing happened....

I'm most confused and perplexed....my front servo started to smoke. I've told it it's a nasty habit and it should not do it, but it continued. now it is dead. it was like something out of a movie; it smoked a lot, then the surface started to melt, then the outer casing opened up like the earth's crust and showed me it's red hot insides, like looking into a chasm into the depths of hell.
now all of this is annoying to say the least. I mean, i spent $6 of my hard earned money on this thing, and it goes belly up!!! You'd think a servo you find on fleabay that comes out of china would be quality, something you can use forever and even hand down to the kids as an heirloom. but no.
ah well, i'll just have to go get me another one, may have to invest a wee bit more wisely this time.....maybe a taiwanese unit?

If you would have spent $7 it would have lasted another week or two....

What you need is a way to pack the magic smoke back in there. Once it gets out they stop working. My theory is that electronics run on smoke.

so if I'm reading the last post correctly, i could have saved myself the extra added expense of a new $7 taiwanese servo by packing the smoke back in, instead of quickly picking my rig up and sucking the smoke into my lungs, like some sort of rock-crawling demon consuming the soul of a poor wretched crawler that had tried it's best in a bad situation. If this is true, is there a thread i can read up on how to pack the smoke back in, as I have been trying to punch upwards of 12.5volts thru the bloody things and they don't seem to like that. please help, if not to save a poor innocent servo, then to shut me the hell up!

I believe it is a proprietary process. The average joe does not have the equipment needed to re-smoke the small electronic bits.

Apart from the scientific method described by JRH, there are always less acceptable methods involving the use of dark arts like magic, voodoo, naked dancing in the rain etc.
Allegedly these methods have great results in putting the smoke back in.

Chuck Norris is the only one I've heard of that successfully put the smoke back in. I believe it went something like this "smoke go back in".

it's so pleasing to see that silliness transcends countries and borders, making it a universally understood language born of the people. I'm sure only those born around Chernobyl with a multitude of fingers and toes can count how many threads are around like this re: putting the smoke back in. and all of them funny.....looking at a HITEC 7954sh to get serious....opinions and discussion?

Nice servo.

I would pop a couple bucks more for the 7955TG. Only rated to 6v, but you get the ti gear train.

Best of both worlds for about $30 more than the 7954SH, is the 7950TH.

Best prices I have found on Hitec servos: Chief Aircraft

I ran 7955tg's a bunch until Futaba picked me up. Strong servos, but they tended to over heat. I think they have current limiting available on some servos now that would help that issue.

I newbie question, is that why they have double o-ring sealed servos...so the smoke doesn't get out?
