Default VXL + sensored motor combo?

I was lookingat getting a SCX10 TR and wanted to put a waterproof ESC in so I figured go big or go home by getting the VXL. Since its a crawler a sensired motor would make sense. I was wondering what are some recommendations. I was thinking a novak but I have no clue what to get. Thanks

as for brand it doesnt matter a ton depending on the battery u are running for a s2 lipo i would try something around 13.5t-21.5t for 3s lipo something around 17.5t-21.5t. but novak and tekin are 2 good brands

I was planning on running mostly 2s lipo and occasionally 3s. So how does the t of the motor work? I know it stands for turns. So the lower the faster?

Do you think 16 would be good to run both 2s and 3s?

I kooked at novak's site and they only have 13.5, 17.5, and 21.5
Out of these which should I get

http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...ors/index.html
http://www.teamnovak.com/products/br...tor/index.html

Could I do the 13.5 crawler?

And the 17.5 or the 13.5 fot the tekin?

The lower number of turns a motor has, the faster the motor spins and the less torque it has.
therefore, the higher the number of turns, the slower the motor is but it will have more torque..

It's always a trade-off depending on what you what to do..

As John Holmes (Holmes Hobbies) states, gear down and volt up

i would try the 17.5t for decent spped and torque on 3s and good torque with a lil bit less speed on 2s

Ok so I'll go with the 17.5 or the 18.5 crawler.

But which motor out of the linked would be the best?

Thanks for the replies

if your set on a novak motor which is a good choice i would go with the 17.5t ballistic spec because the 18.5t ballistic crawler is way slow because of the larger rotor. the spec motor will have a good mix of speed and torque for your scx tr

JMO, I would go with the 18.5 or the 21.5 and run it on 3s or in the case of the 21.5, 4s.

The only problem is the VXL won't run 4s. Go with the Mamba Max Pro.

Again, just my opinion. The 21.5 will have a sweet low-end and still be very fast on 4s. You could probably start out with a 12 or 14 tooth pinion also. You will have axle snapping torque either way, so hang on a pull the trigger.

I wouldn't recommend running sensored with the VXL. Yes it has the hardware to support it but the locked rotor detection is way to aggressive for crawling, it constantly kicks in requiring you to unplug the battery to reset. Take it from someone who knows first hand

no the goat esc needs a crawler motor to have the instant reverse and drag brake any onther brushless motor it will turn into a novak havok esc, but the novak crawler motors will work with any othe sensored esc. like a mmp or tekin rs

That plug in the front of the ESC is for the fan attachment.

There is a 2 pin pigtail that is for the accessory fan. The plug in the front of the ESC is a sensor harness connector.

Ok so 17.5 ballistic. I was hoping to go with the VXL b/c its waterproof

I heard on the traxxas forums that it is good with sensored motors. I could just wait a year to waterproof a mmp esc in a year

It was a Honcho. The VXL never stayed in the truck too long though, it's just not a good crawling ESC unfortunately.
