| servo winch on a 3 way switch??
I have built a servo winch using the tech on this site but i was wondering if it is at all posible to put it on a 3 way toggle switch? I am wanting to put it on my trailer and I only have a 2 position switch on my radio so i thought instead of trying to get it to work with my radio i could just install a 3 way togle on it but i have no idea if it will work or not. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not against hooking it to the radio if anyone has an idea on how to do it without buying a new radio. My radio is a dx3s. Thanks for any help.

a 3way toggle should work fine on a servo winch just get the switch and power should go to the center and hook the servo motor wires to it but never tried it. it shouldnt be to hard

Yeah, it will work directly from a 3 position switch. You have to ditch the circuit board in the servo and hook the switch directly to the motor in the servo. You will need a DPDT (double pole double throw) switch for it to work right. Here is a drawing showing how to hook it up:

Just make sure you get a DPDT ON-OFF-ON switch. Radio Shack should have what you need. edit: looks like this is what you want from Radio Shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...uctId=2102475# Last edited by toybuilder; 09-27-2010 at 01:04 PM.

A 3 position switch does NOT feed power to either pole when "centered" (off). To wire it, power/signal goes to the middle pole (usually.....read the wiring diagrams or check with a meter), the "switched" power goes to either switched pole.

| Re: servo winch on a 3 way switch?? My bad....too many work hours this weekend on top of a "regular" work week. Yes, you need a DP switch to "swap" the power polarity to the motor. My bad to anyone following me. Last edited by Charlie-III; 03-18-2012 at 06:55 PM. Reason: Major edit due to lack of thinking..... |

| Re: servo winch on a 3 way switch?? If the pins you are talking about are the switch contacts, you need a switch with six pins on it. As was mentioned earlier, you want a Double Pole, Double Throw, Center Off switch

You can get a Double Pole, Double Throw, Center Off toggle switch that has a spring return to center. This might be good because if the switch gets bumped, the spring will push it back to the off position for you. If you really want to operate it from your transmitter with a two position third channel, I make a replacement winch controller that will work for you. what i don't understand is if the ground from the motor and battery are tied together and you are using the switch to move the positive from one side to the other off would work and forward would work but reveres would have positive and ground going to the same side of the motor causing a dead short unless i'm just missing something |

You are correct, I was not taking into account the motor reversal (edited my 2 previous posts, than you for pointing this out.). Yes, you need a double pole switch so you can swap the polarity of the DC power to allow motor reversal. Time for some ZZZZZ's for me......
