Chris, You now have 2 less 3S 1000MaH Lipos in stock. And a couple feet less of shrink tubing!

Thanks for the order man. I did mis read you. Sorry. There are high end packs that aren't performing nearly close to their C ratings. And trust me. I wish my boss would let me disclose the brands tested. Although most can read between the lines. I feel information like this should be known.

I just placed my order for 3 of the 850's to replace mine currents. Thanks for helping me get my head around the trickery and the magic that is building these packs.

Also super cool you presolder connectors and balance taps.

Should have gotten the 1000's Jake. They are smaller than the Hyperion 900's Farmer and I have. Would give slightly better run times and a bit more punch!

I read into this last night and was really suprised to see how far off some of those cells were. I guess I know what I'm getting ready to do Thanks for doing this research.

Later,

It isn't hard to tell

Also how exactly is the 'C' rating defined? I take it as my battery can put out X times the capacity without getting hot and then Y times the capacity without going into thermal runaway. Is that what I should be reading or should I be reading something like the c rating of voltage drop vs amps drawn is the dilation factor in a tangent graph?

Thanks
Kieren

Well,

What WE look for, is anywhere between 3.5-3.8 average voltage under its load. The cells should be a respectable temp, and not inflate

Just received my order today and the quality of the construction is excellent. I have been running a pair of 850 11.1 Elite packs that were available for a short period of time for a couple of years in my AX10 and they are still going strong. I'm really looking forward to giving the new 850 Elite 14.8 pack a try.

Very nice work Chris.

I would like to play devil's advocate

According to your graph's, your batteries don't meet their claimed "C" rating either. Although your packs do appear leaps and bounds above the competition, do you plan on changing your labels of 35C to what your actually getting according to the graph's you posted?

For example:

Elite 1300 35C should be able to do 45.5 amps....your test shows 26amps?

Although you come closer to the claimed "C" ratings, we are still not getting whats on the labels.

He who has the least amount of trickery gets our money?

I am not arguing or bashing here. Just like you. hate seeing people waste their hard earned green. I'll probably order a few sets from you myself.

We discharged all the packs(or cells rather) under the same conditions. We applied a constant load and recorded voltage over MAH. This showed us how high the voltage was under load and how much MAH the pack delivered at a 3v cutoff. This is similar to the industry standard for testing lipos. We started testing at 20C (well below the max ratings of all the cells) and we were shocked to see the known brands did not perform well even at a fraction of their labeled C rating. [/CENTER]

His graph was a 20c load, so 20c*1.3mah=26amps. His batteries were right on target

We agree, the battery is according to you and the graph, a 20C.

Why not test the actual C rate of the battery or as close as his GFX will allow?

Looking at the graph where the Mah runs out to shows you that at any higher amp rate, the battery would not have come close to the 1300mah specs on the battery.

Great thread, thank you for taking the time.

I ended up with a Brand P 1100 50c pack when I purchased my Scaler and I knew from one run that the claimed rating was bogus.

I currently run all Brand X G4 45c packs and have been very pleased with them thus far; they're quite punchy and have plenty of power.

I've owned Elite NiMH cells in the past as many of us have, and the quality was very, very good.

When it comes time to replace my Lipos I'll be giving the Elites a solid look.
