Default Stubby whip antenna on 27mhz transmitter?

Can this be done? I hate the telescoping antenna, but like my radio...or do I just have to upgrade?

If you ditch the big antenna you will lose a ton of the range. Upgrading would be the way to go.

antenas on 27mhz radio's are tuned aswell, modifying the length messes with that, more an issue with the RX, the wire is that long for a reason. cut it, and it will die. not right away, but one day.

No it won't. All you are doing by shortening a receiver antenna is raising its resonant frequency. The overall receiver sensitivity will be reduced, but that's all.
