Let me state that this is not for the inexperienced, it takes a little soldering practice and a little courage because alot could go wrong here. I bought some Turnigy 2s 30c hard packs because the Turnigy 20c hard packs were way over rated, typical. The problem with the 30c hard packs is 2 fold; monstrous 8g wire and the hard case is too big to fit in my SC truck. I bought the hard pack version because of the extra safety insurance but they are not necessary. I decided to remove the packs from the hard case and change the wire size. Here's a little step by step; Carefully separate the case halves and remove the pack. Remove the cushion tape; Remove the com tape and set aside to reuse; Cut the 8g wire as short as possible being careful to not bridge the positive to the negative sides. These wires soak up alot of heat so minimizing their length will reduce the heat built up in the cells. Using hemostats I remove the excess power leads. It's important to be careful and patient here. If the wire moves around too much it will sold to the other side and you'll be throwing it like a grenade out of the garage. I tinned some 12g wire, soldered back to the correct lead bases and recovered with the comtape. I used some cross-weave tape to secure the cells and cap the ends. Some shrinkwrap I had laying around. And then reused the decals so I could identify my packs. Smaller packs are tougher to do but a steady hand and a little determination will get it done. |
