Default Battery Spark!

So I have a Lipo battery from my airplane that I don't use anymore (b/c I crashed the hell out of it) and it fits the specs for my crawler. Only thing I have to do is change the connector to a deans so it fits my crawler. When I cut the connector off...it sparked and made some smoke.

Is the battery screwed now and will it blow up in my face if I try to solder the deans on? Or was it just a short?

The battery doesn't looked puffed and I could not tell if it felt warm/hot.

Thanks!

Let me guess you chopped the connector off by cutting both wires at the same time? If so its likely your lipo will explode next time you charge it, you cant let the +&- leads touch or you will ruin the cells in the pack.

Hope this answers your ?'s

Hate to say it but it's probably over, I would check voltage on each cell independently if they are not below specs you could try to charge the pack, but be very carefull. A battery bag out side and some prayer.

It is likely that you vaporized a trace on the PCB that connects the cells, indicated by the smoke. Maybe fixable, may be toast. At any rate the pack is damaged.

Yes, I did cut both at once lol. I have no experience with batteries like that, I figured I could just cut and solder the new connector on. Oh well, I'll just toss it out, I don't feel like being blown up anymore lol. No loss to me really, the battery came with the airplane I bought, Thanks for the quick responses!!!

Educational expenses, At least you didn't do it to a new high dollar battery. If switching connectors on ANY battery pack work one terminal at a time, cut just the pos. and terminate it to the new connector then do the neg. And you can find great deals on batteries through this site.

Did the smoke come from the pack itself, or just where you touched the two wires? Does it have a balance tap that you can check the cell voltages?
