Default Mini Juice up in flames

so we plugged in our mini juice 's battery to charge and walked into the laundry room when we heard a noise

unfortunatley we have to leave the battery on the mini due to how we have the wiring configured

we doused it with water

it caught fire again

you think it's out yet?

wrong it caught fire again! 4 bottles of water!!

so this is what is left f the ckrc battery we had been using
so whats left ? the axels, wheels and tires, front steering and steering servo. good bye spectrum reciever, motor, bec, sidewinder micro speed control and a brand new mini juice chasis

Wow, that sucks.
Brings a tear to my eye to see the poor little truck all melted.

Cool pics though.

Ahhh....That sucks. At least it wasn't a total loss. And good thing those tires didn't get going. Invest in a fire extinguisher.

Water is the worst thing you could put on an electrical fire. If you don't have a abc extinguisher, baking soda would of worked. All water does is increase the shorting.

yes i know, I'm a fire tech in the refineries, but it's all we had available. hmm water or burn down my garage , i go for the water and we made sure to unplug it all before we put water on it, that was the first thing I said while trying to snap pics with my phone, before we doused it. have no baking soda which under the right conditions the dust in the air will catch fire, and no fire extinguisher avaiable either, was sent in to be recharged. we weren't scared by what happened we were laughing and taking our time, we've been in worse fires in the refinery. this was nothing.

I've also had plenty of fire training on dust fires. I work in a 40 yr old coal burning power plant, dust explosions is something not to be taken lightly. Pouring baking soda on the fire would be way less dangerous than water. Heck if you guys were just laughing and having fun that's one thing, but people need to know the right way to put out electrical fires. Especially when dealing with lipos and high dollar electronics.

Maybe a lipo sack would help.

This is no different from many things we use in daily life – knives, kitchen cleaners, automobiles, for a few examples – which are inherently dangerous, but which can be used safely by adhering to simple rules and precautions.

Be absolutely sure that the Lithium Polymer charger settings are correct for the battery pack being charged – both voltage and current settings
Lithium Polymer must be CHARGED and STORED in a fire-safe container like a Lipo Sack
Do not charge batteries near flammable items or liquids
Keep a dry fire extinguisher nearby - or a large bucket of dry sand, which is a cheap and effective extinguisher
Never charge inside an automobile even when parked
Batteries should NEVER be left unattended while charging
KEEP BATTERIES AWAY from children and pets at ALL times

WOW!!! Thanks for the picks, glad the damage was limited to the truck and no one got hurt. This is a great warning that we need to respect the batteries we use.

OUCH! That's all I can say, ive had a pack blow up on me [without flames, go fig but still scary!] once when flying by my house. I must say that was one bad fire if it took 4 bottles of water to put it out, when i destroy my packs by lighting them on fire it doesn't take much to put them out at all!

Hope you can get the rig re-built soon and at least you guys and the house are fine

Sorry to hear about your loss, lipo's if poorly made, mischarged, or damaged have a nasty habit of catching fire

The last few pics of the melted wreckage were the hardest to look at. Sorry, Mindy. Hopefully we'll see a new one on the rocks in January.
