Default Max voltage for a standard servo

My locale hobby store guy was telling me that because I am running dual servos for my 4ws I could run them off a 7.2volt pack. Is this true? My setup uses a Hitec 645MG in the rear and a 94358Z airtronics in the front, and a reversible Y connector to attach them both.

I just want to make sure I would not be frying something. I tried the 6volt regulator that was discussed in http://www.rccrawler.com/postt3261.html but it didn't work well. seemed like there was too much draw for the battery.

I've heard of guys using their 7.2V packs on here, I think Ace did for a while too.

I emailed Airtronics today to find out if it's ok to run my
94359Z on 7.2V. Dunno about the Hitecs.

Thanks for the help. I would figure the dual draw would help prevent them getting overloaded.

Overload how?

Here's what I was mailed.....

Jay: Can a 94359Z be powered at 7.2 volts without problem?
Airtronics: No. Max 6 volts.

Jay: Can the HS-645MG or HS-5645MG be safely operated at 7.2V?
Hitec: Yes you would be able to.

What about the reciever? Can it handle 7.2V as well?

The Futaba receivers can be run battery direct as they're listed as BEC, aren't they?

You know I never thought about the reciever getting fried. I might want to look into that.

How about a 4 cell 3000mAh pack? That'd be at least 5v or so, and would last forever. Maybe I'll tear up another cheapo pack and make a couple 5 cells.

Couldnt you just bypass the reciever and Y harness the batt in like your forced to do on 1/4 scale servos?

I'll give it a try with the 645Mg's if my clod ever runs again
