Default rebuild dewalt 18v battery

Hey all

Has anyone rebuilt an 18v dewalt nicad battery pack? Just curious since they are about $80 each or $110 for two. Seems so ridiculous and quite a rip-off. And I have at least one go bad every year.

Any info on cells would be appreciated.

In case anyone wonders what this has to do with R/C, I use the packs in dewalt flourescent lamps nearly every evening, for lighting up my home course.

Maybe try chris at cheapbatterypacks.com??

Last dewalt pack I took apart was made up of sub c cells, same as stick packs.

A couple of years ago before switching over to makita I rebuilt 4 of my old dewalt 18v with sub C 5000Mah batterys. They take longer to charge but last way longer too. The only tricky thing is reusing the sensor that is on the cell that sits on the top of the pack.

It's pretty easy to do them. Hardest part in some cases it getting the case apart We do quite a few for people and most of my Dewalt packs have our 5000 nimh cells in them as does my garage sale special Black@Decker 14 volt drill I paid 2 bucks for. Just make sure you have a good high watt iron and good solder.

It's not an advertised service. There are several issues that arise our 5000 Sub C cells are bigger than most of the stock cells in these packs so mods need to be done to some of the cases. We do these packs for friends and family in most cases. If my memory serves me right we did Dewalt set for my buddy and it was pretty easy. I think it was the 18 volt ones. I'll have to check with him. If you want give me a call at the shop on Monday and I'll see what I can do. Cost will be based on amount of cells needed and then labor.
