| Sevos, how hot is too hot?
I recently put a 7980 on my super and it's working hard, sounds like it's straining sometimes. I can run it for quite a while before it heats up but I'm just wondering if there is any guidelines like with motors how hot is too hot? It has never gotten so hot I can't touch it, I would guess max is around 105, after 3 or 4 seconds of pressing your finger it gets a little uncomfortable but never burns you. |

Pick up a pocket ir thermometer from your lhs, should be around $20-30. 140* is what I've been told is when you start to lose power from the servo. You can use this programmer to set the overload. http://www.servocity.com/html/servo_...er_tester.html |

I have a thermometer and the Programmer. Do you have any advice on how to set the overload protection? I just used the programmer to open up the deadband one place because I'm running dual servos in the rear. Quote:

Bump for advice on setting overload protection. Also, is 140 degrees the consensus on the max temp for servos. Do servos just temporarily loose power at 140 or do they get damaged permanently.

its going to be more so permanent damage as the heat will cause the motor to loose its torque from the magnets heating up if i remember right, but fell free to correct me if im wrong

With most motors 160 to 200 can cause permanent weakening of the magnets right, I'd assume 140 on the outside of the servo case would be atleast 160 in the servo motor. |

Checking for binding, one of the causes for hot servo.

as is making sure its not trying to push further than the knuckle travel? I'm not getting any binding, EPA's are set correctly. it does not heat up quickly, I"m just trying to become more educated on how hard to run my servos. |
