| 7950 vs. 7980
Is it worth the extra money for the 7980? It will be going in a xr-10 if that makes a difference. Also where is the cheapest place to get them? Thanks for the help |

I disagree, I see no disadvantage to having more power, I have no idea where this whole " too much servo" idea came from, I have ran or driven everything from a 645 to the 7980 on my truck and the power is nice in a comp truck, my rig is only comped, and the 7950 is weak for my liking. For as little cash as it takes to step up and as easy it is to bolt it into an xr I say go for the 7980

The problem about going over board on a servo is that bigger isn't always better. With that much torque if you slip or your rig twitches it can and on a light weight rig under 6lbs most times reposition the rig completely. I personally wont run anything higher then mid 400's because I don't need it and rarely bind it that bad to want to put that stress on the servo. Another thing to watch is how much weight is up front verse the rear as this will drastically change how bad the rear shifts when you steer. | |

You also have to think about the type of terrain you'll be running on. Some places have a lot of tire pinching rocks and holes where you might like having that extra torque to redirect your tires out of a sticky situation. If you can pay for it, get the higher torque servo...

The 7980 is also larger and on a xr10 the tire gets real close to the servo. I personally ran a 7950 on 7.2 volts on my berg and that was enough power to turn my super tires. I now run a 7950 on my 2.2 and it has plenty of power for every comp situation. You also got to think about high volt servos with the small lipos we run whitch can shorten run time.

So it sounds like the opinions are split. Were would be the cheapest place to find a 7980, since it seems to come down to price. Thanks |

Don't forget the xr10 servo mount kinda sucks bc it allows servo contact wth the front right tire so u might want the smaller servo. I think some one else mentioned it but it seams like you might have missed it |

I have been using the 7950 for quite a while with no issues and i am very hard on rigs.. The 7980 is also a great servo, but larger in size and slower.

I love my 7980....I'm not sure I can go back to a smaller servo after running this beast...if it's going on a xr10 I think that's good reason to get the 7980...less likely to bind up with the servo hanging out there when you have the power the 7980 has.

I have two bergs one with a 7980 and the other has has a 7950. For the bulk of people out their I would recomend the 7950. One it has plenty of power especially if you use a BEC, and the case will fit with no modifications. The 7980 is a monster I run it on my V2axled berg with a bec. The rig weigs in at 6.1 LBS, I have it set up in a 86jeep style steering set up. This servo has the power to literally move the whole rig. I have literally bent 2 tierods in binds. The thing is a monster! THe big thing is it is over kill for most rigs, not to mention if your not the type to modify things on your own you might stop right there as your going to have to move the servo mounting holes to compensate for the larger footprint of the 7980. |

7980 is unnecessary for the XR10 unless you're building up an 8 pound rig I've been beating the hell out of 7955 on my XR and a 7950 is exactly what you need |
