Default Did I fry my Hyperion?

I bought a used 0606i and plugged it in and it worked fine with no battery leads on it. I then made a set of battery leads with micro deans. My question is should the battery leads be putting out power before I start the charge? When I plugged the charger in the second time, I had the battery leads plugged into the charger, but not the battery. As soon as I touched the power leads to my car battery the micro deans arced for just a split second to the car. Should this have happened? Should I have had my battery plugged in first? Is there anywhere to send it for repair? I took the cover off and appears that the circuit on "fet 3" is burned. I hope I didn't just waste my money.
