Default Sidewinder vs BRXL?

I want to upgrade my ESC and I'm unsure as to which to buy. The price of the Sidewinder is very reasonable after you apply the rebate but I've personally never seen a rig with it. I have seen one with a BRXL and it functions very smooth, however its out of stock. What are the differences?

Sidewinder will do brushed and brushless, will only handle 3cell lipo.

BRXL is brushed only, will handle up to 6cell lipo.

I have both of these ESC's, if you are wanting to use it for crawling only there is no other esc to own other than the Brxl. So smooth and adjustable. 45t motors and 6 cells is fun until the motors go in smoke

If you happen to have some go fast machines that use brushless motors, you get bored with crawling, you can use the Sidewinder in another RC.

Both rujn fine off NiMH batteries, lipo Cell rating usually is short for the voltage it can handle, 6s would equal about a thousand NiMH cells, haha (I think it would be 24 though in realistic terms)

br-xl is the way I'd go if you can get one, I've used both and think the br-xl is just more powerful, better brake, and handles more voltage. If you are stuck having to buy a sidewinder you won't be dissatisfied though. it's a quality esc for what it costs!

I have heard that CC actually manufactures the br-xl for John, not positive on that, but their construction is similar to CC products so it makes sense, either way they both rock and both companies have GREAT customer support.

BRXL would have to get my vote. I've been running one ever since I burned up my stock electronics way back when, and couldn't be happier.
I have heard a lot of good things about the sidewinder though, and the $30 rebate right now makes it sound like a pretty nice alternative.

Given the choice, I'd still spend a couple extra bucks for the BRXL though.

If I was to go for the sidewinder, knowing it can handle brushless, what is the best brushless set up for a scaler like a honcho?

They are both great. I have run Sidewinders in all my comp rigs because of the price and have loved the performance. I don't scale and have never had the need for mor than 3s. If you go that route you will be happy. The only other thing is water since you mentioned scale but the castle could be waterproofed.

Either a 18.5 turn or 21 turn but your going to have low speed cogging unless running a sensored motor which neither esc can run as sensored.
